Ma'amdom

NS/NS

A lover of textures, I created these songs with a variety of electronic and acoustic instruments, each with a unique set of rhythms and melodies that sit somewhere between Stereolab and Captain Beefheart.

Shirtless, Shoeless Babies

NS/NS

If you're tired of bands trying very hard to be cool, give a listen to 13 of our shirtless, shoeless babies. An original celebration of influences and new ideas united in a tightly controlled recording atmosphere.

Songs written with no apparent explanation of gap between 1996-2010 but mostly between 2003-2007. Recorded in the basement in 2011, being interrupted by trips to the cable lake, the San Marcos river, they doggy park (Junebug does not give half-ass kisses) and work/groceries/movie nights. Thanks to Josh Potter for lending me his red Fat Strat and amp which appers here as guitar left (with 10s). My brown Strat appears here as guitar right (with 12s). 98% of the electric guitar you hear is the mic'd Fender tube amp. Drums are four single-head toms from my 70s Vistalites (I've had since Junior High) and a bass and snare drum that I made. The ride cymbal is my beloved Ludwig Standard /Paiste from the 60s. Various Shure, Electro-Voice, Sennheiser and Oktava microphones captured the performances. Bass guitar is a Jazz Bass through a Crate practice amp hooked up to an old Sunn cabinet. Vocals were performed with emphasis on my natural voice (I tried hard to not sing like an asshole). Keyboards are all soft-synths. Recorded with Reaper. Thanks to Ed Rhone again for technical assistance and thanks to the lovely Louise Sawyer for her patience throughout the year and for letting me use her mattress for the "vocal booth". All instruments played by me (Josh Rice).

Pleticulous Thoughts

NS/NS

NS/NS is at it again, this time it's more of an instrumental album with only 3 vocal songs that tinges around the edges of Reggae and electro/drum machine infused melodic compositions.

Vampire Wombat Pipe

NS/NS

Big fun basement creations blasting your face off; always albumaic, adventurous, usually off the beaten path, synthesized for your electro-rock/reggae/hip-hop pleasure.

My name is Josh Rice and I'm a wakeboarder and musician from Canyon Lake, Texas. I made a CD with my friends under the project name "NS/NS" called "Vampire Wombat Pipe". Logan Farris is also a wakeboarder, he helped write and record most of the songs. My girlfriend, Louise Sawyer, is also a rider and wrote the lyrics to "Google Freak" and helped out on a line from "Winch Rap". Most of the songs on the CD grew out of our love of riding as we found that we could never run out of lyrics on the matter. After releasing it to our friends and fellow riders in the area, we were glad to learn that is was received with some excitement, since the subject matter revolves around our scene and touches on areas of familiarity to a lot of local riders.

Soundtrack to the film "Pavement Ends"

NS/NS

A soundtrack to an ill-fated skate film, this album showcases a variety of moods. Sometimes quirky, sometimes laid-back, sometimes spinning a dark and textured feeling. There are more than a couple hidden secrets contained within.

A soundtrack written for a Fayetteville, North Carolina skateboard film that never got made. A variety of moods/feels with guitars, keyboards, violin, trumpet, saxophone and lots of drums and percussion. My first CD, a unique learning experience self-released in 2003, now available online.
